Audiobook Principles

Audiobook Principles

Audiobook Principles with Mark Niemann-Ross is a good course for anybody looking to get their first audiobook published; the author does a great job explaining the various challenges that the audience can expect to encounter along the way and how to best prepare for these, ultimately making the right choices in finding talent, selecting audio formats, and finding distribution, that will work for them.

The author and his guests all put on an excellent performance, and their straightforward, professional, tone is an asset to the technical material presented herein; instructions are clear and easy to understand and the audience should have no issues following along. Pacing is likewise excellent as much is covered within each lesson without becoming overwhelming, and topics are neatly organized such that finding relevant sections should prove easy for the audience.

I would recommend this course to anybody looking to publish an audiobook.

Audiobooks are the fastest growing segment in publishing, with revenues eclipsing those of eBooks in 2020. 46% of people who own smart speakers are using them to listen to audiobooks. And the average listener consumes eight audio books a year. Companies such as ACX and Findaways bring the ease of self-publishing to the process of creating an audiobook.

Creating an audiobook involves a collection of skills. Writing, narrating, audio engineering, and production coordination. It’s not as simple as just hitting the record button, and reading words out loud.

In this course, we’re going to break down the process of creating an audiobook from a written novel. Along the way, you’ll discover the roles needed to produce an audiobook, the skills required of a narrator, the continuing role of the author, why an audio engineer is essential, and an understanding of the royalty and marketing environment surrounding audio books.

I’ve enlisted two of my good friends to help me explain this wide range of topics. Janell will provide the perspective of a narrator, and Sam will share his experience as an audio engineer. Creating an audiobook is a complex but rewarding experience. So join me in this LinkedIn Learning course.
